Elliot Lake Public Library
Just a reminder, the Elliot Lake Public Library is now open to the public at the new location: Pearson Plaza, 40 Hillside Drive South, come out and see our new facility and what it has to offer.
Walk for Dog Guides
Anew initiative in Elliot Lake, the Lions Club partnered with Pet Value will be hosting a fundraiser, Walk for Guide Dogs on Sunday May 28th at the ELSS track, registration starts at 10 am. All funds will go to Guide Dog training which then assists individuals with disabilities in having a lifelong (dog life) assistant. For more info you can contact Robert Kerr at 705-971-1802
A Youth Program (for basketball and other sports activities) is being held at the Collins Hall on Tuesday night’s 7–9 pm (ages 8 – 12 yrs.) AND Thursdays from 7-9 pm (ages 12 and up).
Official Elliot Lake CANADA 150 merchandise is now available at the Elliot Lake Welcome Centre, including t-shirts and collectible pins.
Larks in the Park
Summer Concert Series will begin June 18 and will feature Northern Cross. These concerts are part of The City’s accessible arts programming and held at Westview Park. Donations are gratefully accepted at the concerts.
The June 20th Community Liaison Committee held at the White Mountain building will see a presentation from North Watch’s Brennian Lloyd.
Tickets to the HiRail Leasing North Shore Challenge Drag Race are now available for sale at the Elliot Lake Welcome Centre. The Drag Race is scheduled for July 14-16 at the Airport Dragway. Mississagi Provincial Park is busy preparing for the 2017 camping season which starts May 19. Summer Vehicle Passes are now available at City Hall and the Elliot Lake Welcome Centre. Sign up your children for the City’s Summer Day Camp for Kids. Starting July 4 and open to ages 5-12, this successful program offers many exciting activities for children including sports, arts, tournaments, theme days, and trips to Science North, Mississagi Provincial Park and the Nuclear & Mining Museum. New this year is the Northern Ontario School of Medicine Science Camp supported by ELCLC, The City of Elliot Lake, NWMO and Bruce Power. Also new is a special arts workshop creating hand pottery. The Digital Creator North Project, which is being operated out of the Civic Centre, has begun to set up their space. This exciting pilot project connects youth and emerging artists with digital media in Northern Ontario. Youth can explore their creativity with audio recording, graphic design, coding, photography, filmmaking and video. We hope to have the centre open within the next couple of weeks. Watch for details on the city website and local media.
The Seniors Advisory Committee is hosting a Speaker Series during the month of June 2017 in celebration of Seniors Month. The Series will be held every Monday, starting June 6 (from 1:00-3:00 pm), at the Lester B. Pearson Civic Centre. There will be new speakers to present topics ranging from Managing your Personal Affairs to Safety and Awareness in your Daily Living. There is no cost to attend. Elliot Lake Seniors at Risk Committee will be hosting an information day for seniors on Saturday June 10th 2017 from 10:30 to 2:30 at the local Renaissance Centre
2017 Landfill Amnesty Week
Tipping Fees will be waived for residential waste at the Elliot Lake landfill site from Monday May 29th to Saturday June 3rd The site will be open 8:30 AM- 4:30 PM to all residents of Elliot Lake. The depot for residential waste will be received at the intersection of Pearson Drive and Scott Road. During this week, all household residential waste will be received free of charge. This applies to residential waste only. Regular tipping fees will apply to commercial, construction, and demolition waste.
Municipal Hazardous and Special Waste Collection Day
